Welcome to the SomeNano Coding Competition v1.0!
In this contest you will have the opportunity to compete in a coding competition to win a bit of Nano. I will start the prize pool with 50 Nano ($336 USD as of today) which will pay out to the top three winners. The prize pool is a publicly known Nano Account and I encourage any in the community that want to contribute any amount, small or large, to support the competition. But more on that below. Let’s learn more about the competition first.
Competition Description
This coding competition will focus on Nano Network visualizers. If you are not familiar with this concept, a Nano Network visualizer is a visual depiction of one or more attributes of the Nano Network. It might view transactions in real-time like my SomeNano Snow, SomeNano Plinko, or SomeNano MagicEye network visualizers (I really like network visualizers). Or maybe it will view votes from Nano Nodes in real-time. Maybe it won’t be real-time and you depict the history of the Nano Network. Maybe you create a website, maybe you create something in the physical world and stream it on video. Maybe maybe maybe… so many possibilities!
In short, the constraint of a “Nano Network visualizer” is not meant to be too much of a constraint. Be imaginative!

Prize Pool
- First Place: 60% of prize pool
- Second Place: 30% of prize pool
- Third Place: 10% of prize pool
I will start the prize pool with 50 Nano. Anyone is welcome to donate to the prize pool to help incentivize participants and the competition. The size of the prize pool will be determined on the day that I send out the prizes. Any Nano sent to the prize pool after prize payouts will be kept for the next competition (not yet scheduled).
Competition Dates
Starts: Immediately on the publication of this article.
Ends: Submissions must be sent to me no later than 0001 GMT on March 18, 2021.
Voting: Starts on March 20, 2021 and be open for 48 hours.
Issues and Complaints Window: March 22–26, 2021. This window is made available for anyone to engage me with issues or complaints about the results of the competition. If issues/complaints are deemed valid, this might adjust the voting and/or payout dates.
Payouts: March 27, 2021.
How To Make a Submission
The only method of submission accepted for this contest is an email to me: jason@somenano.com. You must email me the following information:
- Submission link that is publicly available
- Your Nano address for potential payout
- Any of your social media accounts you want me to reference
I will reply to your email and tell you that your submission has been received. I will also make a tweet from @SomeNanoTweets with your submission information.
How Voting Works
Voting will occur via Twitter Polls from my account: @SomeNanoTweets.
On March 20, 2021, I will create however many polls are required to capture all submissions. Each poll will have up to four submissions with links to each submission. The submissions will be listed in the order that they were submitted to me.
Each poll will be tagged with #SomeNanoCompetitionVoting and be open for 48 hours.
Once all polls have closed, I will tally the votes. The number of votes a submission receives will be the polls total votes * percentage of votes.
In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker poll will be created and run for an additional 48 hours.
Competition Rules
- I am the ultimate judge of this coding competition and all rules are subject to change at any time. I do not intend to change any rules, but I feel this is important to state up front because something ambiguous or not covered by the initial set of rules might come up and require an action or decision.
- Any Nano sent to the prize pool will not be returned to the sender.
- This post here on medium is the official coding competition announcement. Any updates to this post will be logged in the “Change Log” section at the bottom of this post and announced on my Twitter account: @SomeNanoTweets.
- I alone will determine if a submission meets the criteria for this competition. A submission may not be accepted or it may be removed from the competition at any time if it is found to be in violation of the rules.
- Submissions may not make any violations of licensing or copyright. Your submission is your work. If you need to reference another project to be in accordance with their licensing, then do it.
- Submissions should be family friendly. I realize this is a subjective statement, but no nudity, profanity, drug references, or similar content is allowed.
- There is no limit to the number of submissions. However, multiple submissions from the same participant must be unique from one another.
- There is no constraint on when a project was developed. If it was created before this competition, you can submit it “as is” or you may update it before submitting.
- After a submission is made, the creator may continue to make updates to the project. Just know that I will have announced it and people might be visiting.
